Großglockner, “Royal Tour” to the highest mountain in Austria
Description:
Several routes lead up to the 3,798-meter-high summit. The regular route from Lucknerhaus in Kals past the Stüdlhütte and the Erzherzog Johann-Hütte (Adlersruhe) offers everything that makes a classic mountain tour all that it is: alpine meadows, stony terrain, glaciers, via ferrata (A - C), easy climbing (up to 2-) on the partly exposed ridge. The steeper “Stüdlgrat” requires more climbing skill (up to 4) and condition. A less hiked route which is, however, just as scenic and alpine-rich is the Hofmannsweg from the Pasterze to the Adlersruhe. You go from there on the regular route to the Grossglockner with a phenomenal panoramic view of the Alps.
